With many people travelling towards Gozo for the weekend, a significant number of individuals en route to the Gozo ferry of Cirkewwa were found in possesion of a variety of illegal substances and quantities, besides some motor vehicle and traffic regulations during mounted .

 

On Thursday, one 27-year old male from Sliema and a 34-year old male from Xewkija, Gozo, were found by members of 1st Regiment's 'C' (Special Duties) Company, without a valid vehicle licence disc on their car, coupled to which the Maltese man was further fined on the spot by Police for having no indicator or rear tail-lights. The Gozitan man neither had an insurance policy cover on his vehicle. Another Maltese female  of 29-years from Luqa, and  a 31-year male from Msida were also found without a valid vehicle licence discs for their respective cars.

Another Gozitan male of 34-years from Xewkija as well, was observed disposing of an object before coming onto the soldiers' vehicle check-point (VCP). It was later found that the object contained cannabis in leaf form.

 

 

During another VCP mounted by the same 1 Regiment personnel yesterday Friday, a 27-year old male from Xghajra was found without a valid vehicle licence disc, whilst an 18-year old male youth from Pembroke was found driving without the possesion of a driving licence.  A 24-year old foreign national residing in Malta was alos stopped without a valid  vehicle licence disc and driving licence.

 

 

Later that evening, 5 foreign youths residing in Malta  (1 female and 4 males), were found in possesion of a quantity of cannabis resin in thier vehicle whilst also en route to Gozo. Their ages vary between 24 and 27 years.

 

A taxi's passenger, an 18-year old female from Naxxar, was foun by the soldiers in possession of two quantities of cannabis resin and other drug related peraphenalia. Later on, an 18-year old male from Attard was detained when he was found in the possesion of a fairly lasrge quantity of cannabis resin and a small quantity of ecstasy pills.

 

Early in the hours of Saturday morning today in Marsalforn, Gozo, members of 4 Regiment's Training School detained a 29-year old Gozitan male when he was found in possesion of a suspect white-powdered illegal substance, and whilst not in possesion of a valid driving licence and vehicle insurance policy cover.

 

All detained persons were subsequently handed of to district Police and Drug Squad officers for further investigations.
